Star Destroyers over SF

James Gang wins @ moto-st

Another long day out in the beautiful sunshine in Topeka, Kansas.

Up at 6am to get the tire warmers on for the morning practice and qualifying. The team was a bit short-handed so I learned how to take the back wheel off for a race pitstop.

I think a little bad luck yesterday put everyone’s head in the game for today.

We finished in third place in the GST division making this the 8th podium finish in a row for the team. They really did perform well as a team during the race crunchtime. And, for a 3.5 hour enurance race everyone looked out for one another. It’s more like a family atmosphere than just a crew.

That said it doesn’t mean I don’t want some time away from the family, a hot shower and something other than track food (think carnival cuisine with a slightly better menu).

I’m now curling up in a bed at the Topeka Super8 motel. Tired. Drained.

Given the opportunity again I’d jump at the chance to be on their crew.

It’s been a hell of a day

But in a good way. (the pics are in reverse order, btw)

Moto-st starts tomorrow

All quiet tonight. Bikes ready for tomorrow.

Looks like I’ll me working the pit crew, getting into the action, instead of just watching. Woohoo!!

Off to Topeka!

It’s 5:30 in the morning and this may not all come out coherently…

A month or so ago I was walking through the pit area at Barber Motorsports Park. That morning had been a Moto-ST (motorcycle endurance race) when Scott and I started to chat with the James Gang race team from Wisconsin. Over the next few weeks that conversation turned to email and a few phone calls.

So, this weekend, I’m on my way to hang out and, if I don’t mess things up too bad, work as pit crew for the Moto-ST race at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas!

If you’re in Topeka (or nearby) come and see the race on Sunday night…I think it’s only $15 to get in the gate.

I’ll post to Flickr and Twitter when I can.
