ATC2K camera test
Last week, on somewhat of a whim, I let my mouse saunter over to Amazon and checked in on the price of a Oregon Scientific ATC2K Action Cam. It’s a really simple no-nonsense, rugged camera that records directly to an SD card. You can set the resolution, frame rate and image size using two very small buttons on either side of a one-touch record button.
I mounted it to the lowest spot on my front forks. It’s about 5 inches off the ground and perfectly secured with a velcro strap included as one of the many options for mounting the camera.
I’m still playing with it but I immediately have two comments…
1. Damn this thing is rugged! Waterproof/shockproof
2. Damn it takes a crummy picture! I’ve seen better images come from a one use video camera from CVS.
Click the image above for a quick sample of my ride to work @ 320×240 or here for the 640×40 version. Both come complete with a track from the Stereogum tribute to Radiohead’s OK Computer.
P.S. - I made a new one yesterday to show how well (or not) it does in lower lighting conditions. This one is from my drive home. Click to Watch

Me too. Now that I’ve run the movie backwards, I know how to get to your house.
