I got my hands on a 2006 Triumph Scrambler the other day.

While I didn’t have time to put it through a “200 mile” test, I can say it seems to be one of the more uncomfortable bikes I’ve ridden. The seating position is pretty high (32inches) and the plank-style seat isn’t very comfortable. A small, chromed cover over the exhaust pipes heats up pretty fast and is the only barrier between your leg and a good burn.

On the plus side, it’s a very retro-retooling of a classic dual-sport bike. The Scrambler has plenty of power (865cc) and shifts through the gears easily. There’s lots of power in the lower gears. And, it’s undeniable that you feel a little like Steve McQueen taking it for a ride.

After playing on it for a bit, my bike felt very low and easier to control. I’ll reserve more judgement until I can play around a little more.

Thanks to Don Fisher for letting me ride around on his baby.

Bet he rides a cruiser, either a Harley or a wannabee!
