back to it

had a hard week of beer and smoking last week…and no real good excuse for it. I was in San Francisco for Macworld 2005. Suddenly, in that group, I’m instantly transported to a time when I cared little about my lungs or waistline. Oh the humanity.

Got back on the wagon today and did the (now) usual lifting routine. 15 minutes hardcore on the lifecycle. I didn’t want to just drive home after that so I did some back exercises. all told, I was there about an hour.

psychosomatic

psychosomatic. Ah yes, the ability to make your body change its mind. Do I feel okay today? Yes…uh, no…uh, sorta.

What’s all that about? Well, I seem to have hit a psychosomatic wall. I didn’t feel like getting up and going to the gym, so, my body didn’t feel like it either. The next thing I knew, the three of us were on a damn treadmill trying to be okay with running nowhere but trying to act (externally) like all was fine.

The music…oh, that sweet music. I don’t know if I’d be able to get my ass in gear on the “cardio days” otherwise.

The bottom line is that I got moving. I ran/walked almost two miles and did another 7+ on the bike. How’s that for 40 minutes well spent?

working O.U.T.

Okay, so, since nobody reads this it’s easier to put some details up for posterity.

Sheila and I joined Gold’s Gym here in nashville and I went to the introductory meeting with the trainer (Clint) yetsterday. We went through body fat (27lbs of my current 165lbs) and what my goals are for the next year.

I told him I’m more interested in working things proportionally. I don’t want to look (worst case scenario) like one of those triangle people. All big from the shoulders with bird legs. Though, the more I think about it, I’ve already got the bird legs! I’m halfway there!

We went through a 30 minute workout of some upperbody exercises.

Now, today, I’m sore. Clint did tell me that if I were to wash my hair at some point, I might want to do it before sleeping overnight because I won’t get my arms up high enough. He was partially right, though, in hindsight, I’m glad I washed my hair yesterday.

Today, sans trainer, I put myself on a cardio circuit. After stretching I jumped on a treadmill and walked/ran almost 2 miles! I did run about 3/4 of a mile, the rest was speed walking. Then I got on an exercise bike and did almost 6 miles in 15 minutes. My heartrate at starting was about 105 after a few minutes walking the treadmill. By the time I was running it got up to 160+. On the bike I was able to keep it around 130+.

That’s my log for today. I took pictures yesterday, but not today. Wish me luck with more upperbody tomorrow.
