thoughts

probably the toughest day so far. while the creative side is, or seems to be, working and moving forward we are still battling the projection component side.

I think it’s important to not hedge up the production with silly crap like thinking in multiple layers (watchout system) it’s important to give every effort to creating what a system will allow. there are three systems as of this point that we can go with.

1) watchout. smaller upfront investment, more cash revenue from the tour. Limited types of things that we can do (some say MPEG2 works, some done). Mostly our impressions from users are equal in both directions.

2) tape-based. use a processor to break up the image. PROs: we create, it plays. CONs: new box, new projectors, little to no money from the tour.

3) MPEG2 servers. control with dataton TRAX. PROs: push play. CONs: split our images 3 ways, turn on their side. inbetwixt price range option but not making out like a bandit on the tour.

perhaps there’s another solution, that I’m not aware of yet?

I really like where the creative is going and would hate for all of this to go south because we have to repurpose what we’re doing, you know?

drinking coffee at the local shoppe, I love the smell of coffee beans and smoke…mmmmm…

dreams

Those production dreams came back last night. I was working with triple the amount of stuff to program and only several hours to do it…the show was going to happen the night we got to set everything up. It was freaking me out. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well.

Had a meeting today…interesting meeting. We heard about this new software/hardware configuration that is going to make doing this multiple screen stuff much easier…BUT…we can’t just create stuff like you would on any video package. We have to do things in layers. Think like photoshop…background, midground, foreground, extreme foreground…that kind of thought. AND we have to limit the number of video clips we’re running at the same time and mix and match with still frames and 32 bit files (alpha channel included). I’m still in a bit of a whirl about it…as I’m guessing you are…who are you, by the way?? anyway.

it does as much for my creativity as it does for my bewilderment of doing the project. what I mean is that we’re going to have to spend more time producing layers instead of getting it all done in one fail swoop…however…it takes what we’re doing in a completely new direction and gives us the opportunity to use the limitations to our advantage…think japanamation and cell animation. it oughta be an interesting combination.

Oh, and we’re finally supposed to meet with PIPE on Sunday/Monday in chicago to discuss exactly what will be on those screens. the good thing is that they’ve been selling out shows in a matter of hours (if not minutes)…that means the possibility of more cash later for cooler stuff.

The bad stuff about today is that I had WAAAAY too much coffee and now I’m shakey and wanting a cigarette.
